There are many dog breeds and almost every breed have their own set of characteristics. It is important to understand a dogs breed before deciding to make them a part of the family. Here is an insight on some of the popular dog breeds:

1. Labrador

Labrador is also known as Labrador Retriever. It is one of the most popular dog breeds in USA, Canada and the UK. They are found in Yellow(pale yellow to fox red), Chocolate, Black color and are mostly used as disability assistance dogs, aid for the blind, to act as a therapy dog and also to help law enforcement to perform screening and detection work.

2. German Shepherd

German Shepard is also known as  Alsatian. As it’s name suggests, it’s originated from Germany. They are found mostly in tan with black saddlery. They were originally developed for herding sheep but because of their obedience, intelligence and strength they are preferred breed for many other tasks just like the Labrador, including disability assistance, search and rescue etc..

3. Golden Retriever

The exuberant Scottish gun dog is quiet favored dog breed in the USA, Canada, and the UK. The reproduce have sturdy long dense inner and an outer coat that assists them in repelling water and add warmth. Besides being known as the disability assistance dog (guiding, hearing, hunting, detecting, and a search and rescue participant dog), it is also one of the most loving and gentle pets.

4. Beagle

The Beagle is a small hound developed primarily for hunting hares. They are found in Tricolor or white in combination with black and tan/brown or brown/tan. They have great tracking instinct and sense of smell due to his they are very popular as detection dogs and are used in quarantine around the world to detect prohibited agricultural products and foodstuffs.

5. Bulldog

The British English dog is a medium breed with a feature of a pushed nose, wrinkled face, and muscular stature. The expected life expectancy of this breed is 8-10 years and is available in white, piebald, fawn, red and white, and brindle. This kind of dog is willful, friendly, and docile. The weight of the female bulldog is 18-23 kg, while the male bulldog is 23-25 kg.

6. French Bulldog

As it’s name suggests, French Bulldog originated in France and are also known as Frenchie. They are small breed dogs which are a cross between Bulldog and Ratters and are found in shades of brindle, fawn, tan or white with brindle patches.

7. Poodle

Poodle is considered one of the most intelligent dog breed and are skillful in dog sports, circus performance and also as assistance dogs. Their origin is still disputed between Germany and France. They are found in at least three sizes, Standard, Miniature and Toy and in different colors including white, brown, black, silver gray, red, cream etc..

8. Rottweilers

The Rottweiler is a medium to large sized dog breed originated from Germany and was mainly used to herd livestock and to pull carts. They are now used as police dogs and search and rescue dogs. They are found in Black and tan or black and mahogany color.

9. Yorkshire terrier

Originated in England, Yorkshire terrier are small dog breed developed to catch rats in clothing mills. It has grey, black, and tan coat. Though being very small in size they are very overprotective, active, curious and fond of attention. They are naturally smart dogs and are easy to train.

10. Boxer

Boxer is a medium sized, short haired breed originated in Germany. They are found in fawn and brindle colors. Most of them have a white underbelly and white on the feet. They are considered to be very honest and loyal to their owner and household but have difficulty trusting any stranger. They are also considered as a popular choice for families as they are very protective and can form strong bonds with children.
